Copyright Infringement
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was created in 1998
with the attempts to protect the rights of copyright owners
and provide network providers/ISPs some protection from copyright
lawsuits due to end users' abuse of copyrighted material. Copyright
Infringement is the unlawful copying or redistribution of another's
work. According to the DCMA, if a copyright owner discovers
an infringement, they can file a complaint with the network
provider/ISP providing service to the accused customer.
If you would like to file a complaint with InterStar concerning
any copyright infringement you must follow the guidelines listed
in the DMCA. It requires the that the following six items be
included in the complaint.
1. A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized
to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been
infringed upon.
3. Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringed
upon or to be the subject of the infringing activity and that
is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled as well
as information reasonably sufficient to permit InterStar to locate
the material.
4. Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider
to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone
number, and, if available, an electronic mail address.
5. A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief
that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized
by the copyright owner, it's agent, or law.
6. A statement that the information in the notification is accurate,
and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized
to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly
infringed.
