Individual (Dial-Up)
Accounts
Non-dedicated Dial-up Connection
a. Dial-up is attended access and requires the
physical presence of the account holder while the account
is connected to the Internet. Pings, bots, auto-checkers
to keep connections running or the use of other programs
(such as ICQ or other chat programs) that violate this
reasonable use agreement are prohibited, as well as the
use of software to stay logged on while not actively
using services. Repeatedly exceeding eight (8) hours
of daily usage on dial-up may constitute "excessive
use," and accounts which remain idle for more than
twenty (20) minutes while connected may be disconnected
without notice.
b. Non-dedicated dial-up accounts are for
individual use only and may not be used for any private
or personal business or gain or for any unsolicited or
commercial advertising. Account holders may not run or
operate servers of any type, or provide network services,
from dial-up accounts.
- InterStar dialup accounts are intended for use by an
individual. Multiple logins are prohibited, except as
allowed by an InterStar-provided account.
- InterStar does not offer shell accounts. Attempts to
use shell type accounts to circumvent the 'idle daemon'
or time charges accounting, or attempts to run programs
by any method, are prohibited.
- InterStar FTP accounts operate on shared resources.
Customers are prohibited from excessive consumption of
resources, including CPU time, memory, disk space, and
session time. The use of resource-intensive programs
which negatively impact other system users or the performance
of InterStar systems or networks is prohibited, and InterStar
staff may take action to limit or terminate such programs.
- Password security is the responsibility of the individual
user. Good passwords should be a minimum of six characters
long, contain at least one number or symbol, and are
not based on any dictionary word or common name. Customers
may not share passwords or accounts with others. If a
customer suspects that their password integrity has been
challenged, then it is the sole responsibility of the
Customer to take corrective measures toward securing
a new password.
